Last year I purchased a Hewlett Packard computer from the Westbury Best Buy and it was supposed to be shipped to me via Federal Express. About two weeks later I came home to find an attempted delivery notice from Federal Express informing me that they would attempt to redeliver or I could pick it up myself.
That very same day I went to Federal Express to pick up my computer and was informed that someone claiming to be me already picked up the computer---obviously it was stolen. I took it upon myself to file a police report (even though the shipper should have done this) the next day. I contacted Best Buy to inform them the computer was stolen and those a**holes referred me back to Federal Express to fill out a claim. Federal Express stated that only the shipper (Hewlett Packard) could file a claim. Hewlett Packard referred me back to Best Buy. Best Buy refused to give me any assistance in this matter.
Under normal circumstances when a customer orders something through the mail or on the internet the company that cashes his/her check /money order is legally responsible to make sure that the product reaches the customer. If it gets lost along the way the company has to send a replacement, refund the customers money, or contact the shipping company to find out what happened to the product. What should have happened is that when I contacted Best Buy they should have contacted Hewlett Packard and Hewlett Packard should have contacted Federal Express to find out what happened. Hewlett Packard could have filed a claim with Federal Express to recoup the loss and in the interim I should have gotten another computer. Instead I got the run around from all three companies.
I contacted the Nassau, Long Island Attorney General's office with my complaint and they agreed with my assessment of the situation and pursued the matter but from what they are telling me Best Buy refuses to cooperate and hasn't been returning their calls or answering their letters.
Best Buy is the most deplorable company that I have dealt with so far. Please let me know if there is a class action lawsuit pending concerning customers who have been victims of a similar situation. I would relish the opportunity to participate.
