Testimonial #22: Playing "Piss-off the customer"
I worked for BestBuy for two years as a supervisor of three departments...Computers, Hometheater, and Operations. Let me tell you about how we "did business". Every store competes with the other stores and your evaluation of how good you are is in relation to your Company Ranking...thats all. Not customer service. As a matter of fact we used to play a game with customers called Piss-Off the customer. If we had an idea that someone wasn't going to buy all the useless overpriced crap that we assured them they needed we would keep showing them more and more things until they got frustrated and decided to leave. Some of our guys even went so far as to tell the people "You are Dumb" for not buying so and so. We could even entice people to curse so we could have them thrown-out of the store. The reason we did this is because if someone bought x amount of product, then 10 - 15% of that needed to be totally accessories and another 10% needed to be Service Plans. We weren't commission so we couldn't give a flying crap if you bought or not (unless you were buying the entire package). Let me tell you, these guys have there sights set on being the Wal-Mart of electronics stores. And what does that mean? To weed EVERYONE out of their market, total market domination. Some of you guys say "Hey, competition is good." I say, " when you narrow your market then you will find yourself HAVING to by from certain people." In closing I have an attached piece of artwork that says it all:
